Hi Betina
If you follow the steps here the user should be redirected to the post without having to go to the backend.
I would give the users role the least capabilities and this way, if they stumble on the back-end they would not be able to do anything. You can also try to play with the role manager wordpress plugin or a memebership plugin to control access to your content. If you have more questions, please let me know.

Great post! Is it possible to create a login for users only. Giving them access only to the front-end and not the back-end? The idea is to password protect the entire content of the site and only give users/subscribers access to front-end posts.

Hi, yes it is possible if you create 2 sets of roles, one for Teachers and one for parents. You will have to do some programming to control viewing the posts by roles, or you might find a useful plugin that can do it. Search membership plugins for wordpress. I think that will do it. Also, if you wait for Wordpress 3 to come, it will be easier. Wordpress 3 should include functionality of Multi user wordpress, which I think should be implementing your request without even a need for a plugin.
Regards.

Hello. I have a WordPress site where I need separate logins for two separate sections of the site. There is a Parent section and a Teacher section. The parents should not be able to access the teacher's section (I hope I'm making sense). Is this possible with WordPress. Right now I have to manually change the "role" of a Teacher and they do not have immediate access.

This code is great, but I'm having trouble with styling the text in the template I'm using for the password protected page.

Juergen, Yes, I encourage you to do it and let me know if you have any questions about it.
This is a good opportunity to change some code to make your site look more unique. You are changing the code in your template only, so you should not have any problem when upgrading WordPress in the future.
Good Luck!

That sounds very interesting. As soon as I have some spare time (for debugguing ;-) ) I'll take the risk and try your proposal. Up to now I didn't ever touch the blogs source code...
