A survey by Edison Research reveals that for the first time more Americans would give up television over the internet, if they had to choose of course. 49% would give up television versus 48% would give up internet. Just 9 years ago the same survey showed the opposite. 72% will give up internet versus 26% give up television.

Study shows Gmail service with a higher engagement rates than Yahoo, Hotmail, and AOL.

A recent study by mailchimp shows that Gmail service has higher open rate, click rate, and lower bounce rates than other known mail service providers. With millions of emails send, the open rate of gmail is about 6% higher than Yahoo. You can argue that this is partly because Gmail service is newer than the others.

I first started with a Yahoo email and then added Gmail, but still keep my Yahoo email, which started to collect emails that I don’t really like to read..

Gmail offers a lot of features. My favorite one is being able to send email using “Send mail as” feature. This feature allows me to send email appearing from multiple accounts, and is a great way to organize my emails and respond to all of them from one single account.

According to a new survey by guidance, more than 60% of respondents reported being drawn to online retailers that employ Web 2.0 tools and techniques.

The study had one main question for over 1,000 consumers: “When thinking about shopping online, what is most likely to make you return to a given shopping website?”

35% of respondents will return if the site offers recommendations on products or services for sale. Yes, a lot of traditional shopping sites already offer this feature.

26% say they want “a unique experience each time” they shop. This will require some creativity on the site owner. Adding relevant news to the product could be way to implement this.

18% say they’re more likely to return “if the site solicits their feedback” on its products and services. That’s what I always look for myself. Existing customers write and rate the products they have already purchased.

16% say “a welcome when they arrive” at the site is the factor most likely to make them return.

6% say they’re most likely to return “if the site makes them feel part of a community” with other shoppers/site visitors.

To read more about the report, check marketingcharts.com

Building web2.0 sites is becoming more feasible and affordable with open source scripts like WordPress and the huge amount of plugins that you can easily add to your WordPress installation. You can now add WordPress to complement a shopping cart script or even get a shopping cart plugin to WordPress and turn it to a store.

Interactive Advertising Outlook

Interactive advertising revenues will increase significantly: from $45 billion in 2007 to $147 billion globally in 2012 – a 23.4% CAGR – according to “The Kelsey Group’s Annual Forecast (2007-2012): Outlook for Directional and Interactive Advertising.”

My Take:

I agree, the potential for exchange advertisers have on the internet is far greater than with traditional print, radio, or TV.

The best ways to get traffic to your site beside choosing the right keywords, is always bringing new content that interests viewers and interactivity that engages the readers from polls, forums, and social networking to name a few.

But most also feel uncomfortable about sending personal or credit card information over the internet, according to a Pew Internet Project survey, writes MarketingCharts.

78% agree that shopping online is convenient, however 75% do not like sending personal or credit card information over the internet.

My Take:

I noticed that some subscribers to my hosting service started sending me e-checks lately. Maybe that could be a viable option for any service provider to offer e-checks and even paper checks along the other methods of payments.

I would agree and prefer to use my personal info only in one place, a least this minimizes the security risk of my personal info. One popular option out there is Paypal.
