Can I upgrade WordPress that was originally installed from Fantastico

Q: Hope u can advise me please…I have installed WordPress from Fantastico in Host Gator – and I was wondering if I should upgrade.
It gives me this option in the WordPress Admin Dashboard.
I haven’t done anything to it yet – its standard and I’m just trying to learn everything about it.
Just not sure if I should click the upgrade automatically button – so before I did, I thought I should ask?

A: Thank you for contacting me. Sure you can upgrade.. WordPress upgrade is smart enough to notice if you skipped a version, it will make the necessary upgrade.
You can upgrade through the automated upgrade in the WordPress dashboard.
And since you have done nothing, no need to do a backup.
